Services

Chatterbox offers a variety of speech and language development services in the Perth area that can be tailored to suit your individual needs and busy lifestyle. We thrive on working as a multidisciplinary team, often involving parents, teachers and other professionals at different stages of the decision making process.

We aim to create a learning environment that is fun and enjoyable for your child. A summary of the services we offer and descriptions of our more popular services are listed below. For more information please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Assessments

Assessments are an excellent way to determine your child’s language and communication skills and measure them against the age appropriate norms. Detailed analysis of the assessment results are discussed with the parents/care-givers and will give a great insight into the child’s development along with determining the level of intervention that may be needed . A full written report can also be provided on request for an additional cost.

Therapy

Our clinic or school-based therapy sessions are individually tailored and focus on setting specific goals and strategies for your child. All sessions are  based on strong rationales and theoretical knowledge and a  30, 45 or 60 minute session may typically include:

  • A discussion regarding your child’s goals and progress.
  • One-on-one therapy session with your child that is conducted in a fun, interactive and practical manner that will motivate your child to learn.
  • Detailed feedback regarding your child’s session, strategies and home-based activities to implement into your child’s daily lifestyle.

Specialised Skills

Along with the services listed above, Chatterbox also offers the following specialised skills which may be suited to your childs needs.

Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk

Designed specifically for parents of young children (birth to 5 years of age) who have been identified as having a language delay. Hanen offers a small, personalised group setting where parents learn practical strategies to help their children learn language naturally throughout their day together.

Hanen works on the principal that parent empowerment leads to better language outcomes for young children. The program is used to empower parents to become effective language facilitators for their child. The program is research-based and the results are encouraging. Hanen provides a proven teaching methodology and coaching framework for effectively engaging parents in their child’s early language intervention.

The Lidcombe Program

The Lidcombe Program is a behavioural treatment for young children who stutter. The treatment is administered by a parent or carer in the child’s everyday environment. Parents learn how to do the treatment during weekly visits to the speech pathologist. During these visits, the speech pathologist teaches the parent by demonstrating various features of the treatment, observing the parent do the treatment, and giving the parent feedback about how they are going with it. This parent training is essential and it is the speech pathologist’s responsibility to ensure treatment is performed appropriately, creating a positive experience for the child and the family.

PROMPT

A tactile-kinesthetic approach that uses touch cues on a child’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide them through a targeted word, phrase or sentence. The technique develops motor control and the development of proper oral muscular movements It also eliminates unnecessary muscle movements, such as jaw sliding and inadequate lip rounding.

LAMP

Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) is a therapeutic approach based on neurological and motor learning principles. The goal is to give children who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves in any setting.

LAMP focuses on giving the individual independent access to vocabulary on voice output devices that use consistent motor plans for accessing vocabulary. Teaching of the vocabulary happens across environments, with multi-sensory input to enhance meaning, with the child’s interests and desires determining the vocabulary to be taught.
